Laanilan Kievari has been on people's lips for more than 100 years.

Back in the day, people headed to Laanila with a glint of gold in their eyes, but today for something even more valuable - unhurried time with great food and excellent wine.

The restaurant offers food experiences with French and Karelian influences, using Lapland's local ingredients, all complemented by the incomparable wine list. In addition to our à la carte menu, we organize annual events such as Christmas brunch, May Day brunch, and Maundy Thursday feast - a wine tasting event, where guests can enjoy carefully selected wines and delicious meat dishes under professional guidance.

 

The venue is perfect for various events, from corporate parties to intimate weddings. The historical building, fireplace, and rag rugs create an unique and cozy atmosphere along with our hospitable staff. In our restaurant's premises, you'll find a charming Arctic Spa where you can relax in an outdoor hot tub and enjoy the refreshing experience of ice swimming. The sauna world provides facilities for relaxation for both small and large groups and is also suitable for events.

About us


In 2012, Riitta, Markku, and their son Samuli went on a fishing trip to Lake Inari. On the way, they found a restaurant premises for rent, and in November, they moved to Laanila in Saariselkä. Laanilan Kievari opened in December 2012 and has been one of the most popular restaurants in Saariselkä ever since.

At Kievari we focus on using clean and locally sourced ingredients that the Lappish nature offers us. The cozy old building creates an unique atmosphere, and Samuli's wine list has attracted visitors from afar. Nowadays, Riitta and Markku have rightfully retired, and the younger generation, Samuli and his wife Leena, have taken over the restaurant. What remains is a fantastic legacy, knowledge, and the traditional root for the absolutely best rye bread.
